Jigra Teaser Review: Alia Bhatt’s Film Is A Powerful Sibling Bond Laced With Ample Action

Alia Bhatt Jigra Teaser review

After a long break, Alia Bhatt is making her comeback with Jigra. Directed by one of the most promising and unconventional Directors of B-town Vasan Bala, Jigra is a gripping emotional drama. Following the reveal of a few posters of the film, the teaser of Jigra is finally dropped. Read this story to know what clues the teaser of Jigra gives us about the film.

Jigra Teaser Breakdown

The teaser opens with Alia Bhatt’s character Satya in a somber tone, sporting a disheveled ponytail. She’s narrating her tragic backstory to Manoj Pahwa’s character. We learn that her father took his own life after her mother passed away, leaving her and her brother orphaned. This trauma has defined Satya’s life, pushing her to take on the role of her brother’s protector. This sibling bond becomes the emotional core of the film.

As the teaser progresses, we see Vedang’s character imprisoned and subjected to brutal torture. Alia’s Satya is on a mission to rescue her brother, displaying a mix of vulnerability and ferocity. In several clips, we see her resorting to violence, brandishing weapons, and engaging in action-packed sequences. The mood is dark and intense, heightened by the background score—a new cover of the classic song Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka from the 1971 film Hare Rama Hare Krishna, reprised by Achint, with lyrics by Varun Grover and sung by Vedang Raina himself. The song evokes a sense of nostalgia, an element that Vasan Bala frequently weaves into his films.

The teaser offers more than just emotional depth; it taps into Bollywood nostalgia with a nod to Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic “Angry Young Man” persona from the 1970s. Manoj Pahwa’s character warns Alia’s Satya, “Bach ke niklana hai, Bachchan nahi banna (You’ve got to escape unscathed, not become Bachchan).”To which she fiercely replies, “Ab toh Bachchan hi banna hai (Now, I have no choice but to become Bachchan),” signaling that she’s prepared to fight anyone who threatens her brother’s safety.

This combination of high-stakes emotional drama and action, set against a nostalgic backdrop, makes Jigra a unique addition to Vasan Bala’s filmography. Known for his quirky takes on familiar genres, Bala has previously delivered films like Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota (2018), an action-comedy, and Monica, O My Darling (2022), a neo-noir dark comedy. His penchant for mixing retro elements with contemporary storytelling seems to continue in Jigra.
