Devara: Part 1 has finally hit the big screens, and if you’ve been eagerly waiting for this Jr NTR-starrer, you’re in for an action-packed treat. Directed by Siva Koratala, this high-budget movie also stars Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, making it one of the most anticipated films of the year. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive in!

Story

The movie is set in Ratnagiri, a coastal village near the Red Sea, and follows Devara (Jr NTR), Bhaira (Saif Ali Khan), and Rayappa (Srikanth). These guys are the top dogs in their respective villages, and they help a shady character named Muruga (Murali Sharma) smuggle goods from ships. But Devara starts to feel uneasy about all this illegal activity and wants out. Bhaira, on the other hand, doesn’t like this change of heart and decides to kill Devara.

Things take a sharp turn when Devara mysteriously disappears. Fast forward twelve years, and Bhaira now rules Ratnagiri, still obsessed with finding and finishing Devara. Meanwhile, Devara’s son, Vara (also Jr NTR), has grown up innocent and clueless about his father’s past. The twist? Vara teams up with Bhaira! Why would he join forces with the man who wants his father dead? What’s really going on with Devara? Is he still alive? All these questions keep the story moving, and the suspense will definitely keep you hooked.

What Works

Jr NTR, no surprises here, is amazing in dual roles. As Devara, he’s calm yet powerful, while as Vara, he plays an innocent young man who’s trying to figure things out. He balances these two characters so well that you’re constantly engaged with both his personas. It’s a masterclass in performance.

Saif Ali Khan as Bhaira, the vengeful antagonist, is also a standout. He brings a dark, menacing energy to the role that makes him a memorable villain. His rivalry with Jr NTR’s Devara drives much of the tension in the movie. Janhvi Kapoor, though her role is limited, shares some lighthearted moments with Vara that add a fun break from the otherwise intense storyline.

Action lovers will have a field day with this one. The fight scenes are epic and designed to make you cheer. The dialogues, especially the ones that build up Devara’s heroic character, are bound to get applause from the audience.

Supporting actors like Srikanth and Prakash Raj also hold their own, adding layers to the story. Their performances fit well into the bigger picture, helping build the world of Ratnagiri.

What Doesn’t Work

While the movie has plenty of highs, it does stumble in a few areas. The story, though engaging, is pretty predictable. By the time you get to the second half, you’ve already guessed where things are headed. Koratala Siva, who’s known for delivering fresh plots, plays it a bit too safe here.

The second half of the film, in particular, feels like it drags. Some scenes could’ve been tighter, and a little more surprise would’ve helped keep the momentum going. Plus, Janhvi Kapoor’s role, though sweet, is too brief. Her fans might feel a little short-changed, as she doesn’t get a lot of screen time or depth to work with.

Prakash Raj, while solid, could’ve had a stronger backstory. Saif Ali Khan’s character, Bhaira, also loses some steam in the second half, which is a shame considering how much potential his role had in the beginning.

The climax, while intense, feels rushed. You’re left with a bit of a “Wait, that’s it?” feeling, which could’ve been avoided with a more fleshed-out ending.

Technical Aspects

Visually, the film is stunning. Ratnavelu’s cinematography captures the coastal vibe perfectly, adding a lot of mood to the scenes. Anirudh Ravichander’s music also elevates the film, particularly during the action sequences and emotional moments. The editing by Sreekar Prasad is decent but could’ve been tighter, especially in the second half. The action choreography is definitely one of the highlights, with some truly exciting sequences that are sure to be a hit with fans.

Verdict

Devara: Part 1 is an entertaining, action-packed ride that delivers on the spectacle front, largely thanks to Jr NTR’s powerhouse performance and Saif Ali Khan’s gripping portrayal of a villain. However, it does have its flaws – the storyline is predictable, and the second half drags a bit. But if you’re a fan of Jr NTR or just looking for an entertaining action film to watch this weekend, it’s worth checking out.
