Jigra Movie Review

Jigra is one of those thrillers that sneaks up on you and takes you on a wild ride. Directed by Vasan Bala, this film has Alia Bhatt playing Satya, a fierce sister on a mission to save her brother Ankur (played by Vedang Raina) from an impossible situation. It’s got action, drama, and a hefty dose of sibling love, all wrapped into one gripping package.

Plot Overview

The story kicks off with Satya and her little brother Ankur, who’ve been through thick and thin together since losing their parents. Ankur gets himself into a sticky situation while in Hanshi Dao—a fictional country that feels a lot like North Korea—and ends up facing a death sentence after being framed for drug possession. What follows is Satya’s relentless quest to save her brother, navigating a tricky escape plan in a place where the rules are as harsh as they come.

What Works?

What sets Jigra apart is its pacing and vibe. Vasan Bala does a great job of keeping things moving at just the right speed. The switch from the streets of India to the strict landscapes of Hanshi Dao is super smooth, almost like you’re right there with Satya on this mission. And even when the action slows down in the second half, there’s a clever dialogue that says, “This isn’t a masala movie; it’s complicated,” which nails the movie’s tone perfectly.

The best part? The bond between Satya and Ankur. It’s raw, real, and totally heartwarming. You might find yourself rooting for them even harder because the emotions hit just right—one moment you’re on the edge of your seat, the next you’re reaching for tissues.

Alia Bhatt is the heart and soul of Jigra. She nails the role of Satya with a mix of vulnerability and sheer determination, proving once again why she’s one of the best in the game. Her chemistry with Vedang Raina, who plays Ankur, is so genuine that you really buy into their sibling connection. Vedang’s easy-going performance adds a nice balance to Alia’s intensity. And let’s not forget Manoj Pahwa—he’s a total scene-stealer without ever feeling like just comic relief.

Music & Cinematography

The music by Achint Thakkar deserves a shout-out too. The background score does a fantastic job of building tension, pulling you even deeper into the action. Visually, the film is top-notch, with clean editing and cinematography that keeps you glued to the screen.

What Could Have Been better?

The movie does have a few hiccups, especially in the second half where it drags just a tad. At around 20 minutes too long, the pacing could’ve been tighter, but even those slower moments don’t take away from the overall experience.
